This week, yet again, we at Hare Curated had the joy of adding another layer to Carbon Johannesburg`s atmosphere: a lush seasonal floral installation — designed to bring nature’s energy into their modern, stylish space — a space that blurs the lines between bold and refined, masculine and feminine, dark and light. It’s no wonder they won the Hairnews 2020 Interior Design Award.
Featuring a medley of blooms: delicate white larkspur, textured scabiosa in blue and deep burgundy, romantic blush carnations, dramatic cymbidium orchids, scented sweet peas, and sprigs of rosemary, lavender, and plum blossoms for a touch of the unexpected — each stem was chosen for texture, movement, elegance, and scent, echoing the artistry Carbon’s team brings to every cut, colour, blowout, and manicure.

From Blooms to Brilliance – Celebrating Women’s Day in Full Colour
Yesterday, the ladies of Ivanhoe Mines SA’s Sandton offices traded spreadsheets for stems, and laptops for lush blooms — in a joyful Women’s Day workshop curated by Hare Curated and beautifully coordinated.
I demonstrated two hand-tied bouquet styles:
1. A kitchen/dining room bouquet, transformed into a vase arrangement as part of a one-place setting tablescape for an intimate home soirée.
2. A lounge bouquet reimagined for a vase to show how a hand-tied creation can live on as a timeless interior accent.
While I worked, the ladies sipped, painted, and laughed — their canvases blooming alongside the flowers. The energy was as vibrant as the palettes.

Blooming with Purpose:
All these gorgeous blooms from the various shades of white and cream dahlias and hints of lavender, pink, and burgundy as well, to the several types of scabiosa, delphiniums, and Cosmos – arranged by Hare Curated – come straight from our own test beds at our headquarters in Johannesburg. As a floral designer and grower, I’m all about keeping things local, sustainable, and local cut flower grower community-driven.
No matter if you have just a few pots to fill, whole beds in your garden or a small plot of land you grow or farm on. There’s something magical about cutting flowers from the garden and sharing them in an arrangement – especially when it inspires others to grow and experiment with their own cut flower varieties. Sure, I don’t always get to fulfil every order or event or film/stills project with blooms from my garden and some of my preferred local growers and still have to fill some orders from auctions or wholesale markets. But being an ambassador of what is possible and slowly turning the tide makes me happy. There is a movement and consciousness in sustainable floristry building and that means so much to me.
I love seeing my customers’ flower beds thrive, sharing tips and triumphs, and building a community that bonds over the simple (and yet profound) joy of flowers. Even on bigger projects – like corporate events or film sets – watching people’s faces light up when they discover a new bloom is priceless and to be able to tell them that it is locally grown makes me glow with pride. This shared enthusiasm for nature and beauty truly brings us all together.

Darkness falls on the night…and the full impact of Erique’s amazing event design becomes apparent.
Again, our thanks for arranging such a magnificent 60th birthday event for my darling wife. Your suggestions for caterers and barmen were right on the mark. And then to top it off you managed all suppliers with ease, and you styled the events with breathing, inspiration for my wife and our guests. Many are still talking of that great winter night in our front garden where not one sole realised that we were in the midst of winter We were all warm and toasty in our marque enveloped with beautiful décor, floral design and table setting and surrounded by laughter with friends and family to feast, drink, and celebrate this momentous moment.

How can we thank you for all your tireless wonder? You took our requests and ideas fleshed them out and guided us through your creative process to a place of magic. You turned our venue into something completely different. You gave us whimsical elegance within our budget.
What marvels me most is how you dealt with one or two issues that could have possibly become an anti-climax to our event and with utter ease you diverted and came up with solutions on the day when the venue could not fulfil its mandate even though you were not contracted to deal with it you stepped in and made a plan for us with one of your vendors who on short notice assisted you and that speaks volumes of the relationship you have with your team and vendors.

Dearest Erique, once again we could rely on you to create another gorgeous event for our family, and for Neil’s 70th birthday.
Our front lawn in Melrose Estate once again was transformed into a space where friends and family came together for a luncheon with exquisite food, (as per your recommendation) via Olives and Plates, your décor, table setting, floral designs for the tables and our various space, the entertainment and of course your idea of having a bespoke gin bar from Thrust just made the luncheon and afternoon a perfect celebration. You worked with our theme, created a colour palette, and helped me finetune the menu from canapes to sit-down lunch, later a cheese board and topping it off with a birthday cake in Neil's favourite taste profile (Carrot Cake) supplied by Olives and Plates.
As always you made sure everything was in place and on time. You wrangled all the vendors and added your decorative ambience perfectly suited to the occasion and setting. As always, our guests enjoyed themselves and had much to say about the event and their enjoyment.
This is your 3rd event for us (my 60th, Bianca’s and Oliver’s engagement party and now Neil’s 70th) – Thank You, each of these has been amazing!
